Program Director, Lynn Kennedy

Lynn is the administrator for the Horizons Program. Since her arrival at Horizons in 2011, she has made many positive changes that focus on keeping the school a safe, productive and caring environment for staff and students. Lynn began at OnTop in 1982 and after ten years moved on to special education in Williston. She then served as an administrator in Charlotte, VT.

Jason Reed, Teacher

Jason Reed teaches Social Studies and Humanities courses here at Horizons. He earned his M. Ed. from St. Michael's College in 2003. Jason has coached at Burlington High School and still works for the athletic department at home hockey games. Outside of Horizons, Jason is a director and evaluator for Therapy Dogs of Vermont, and enjoys riding his mountain bike whenever he can.

English and Literature

Erin Murphy, Teacher

Erin Murphy has been teaching English and Social Studies at Horizons for the past four years. She lives in Burlington with her husband, Jim, their son, Charlie, and their gray Tiger kitty, Luna. Erin and Jim are expecting their second baby in June 2013.In her spare time, Erin enjoys spending time with her family, practicing yoga, reading, cooking, and getting outdoors as much as possible.


Sandra Hawkes, Teacher

Sandy teaches visual art at Horizons. She enjoys art, camping, travel and showing people how to discover and use creative abilities. Students are encouraged to express themselves using a variety of mediums and techniques from the classics to more modern techniques using various tools and materials. The beauty of their efforts can be seen displayed in the hallway of Horizons and in the accomplished looks on the students faces as they get to see their work displayed and enjoyed.
